We are all Entrepreneurs - B

We are all Entrepreneurs (B)

noun: impresario; plural noun: impresarios
a person who organizes and often finances concerts, plays, or operas.
Sometimes used as a synonym for entrepreneur

A mission statement is a concise explanation of the organization's reason for existence. It describes the organization's purpose and its overall intention.
According to Mckinsey.

A vision statement is basically the dream land for a company. Where are you headed? Perhaps Why?

A postition statement is the target of a company, its unique identity and its frame of reference. Essentially what people should bring to mind when they think of a company.

a category entry point (CEP) is the situation in which a customer will most likely need a particular product. For example, being thirsty in taffic is a CEP for a cold drink.

People are born impresarios.

Everyone is handed a seat on the management board of their life-play, waiting to assume the chairpersonship at a point.

Essentially, it is about who was born. Not who was born to be an entrepreneur or who can be made into one. Anyone at all, born through the agency of man and woman, can be considered an entrepreneur, naturally and ideologically.

I intricately described the natural approach in our previous article on this subject matter; read that here.

As a person-company, your whole societal setup fits within the framework of a typical company, such that you have employees, shareholders, a board of directors, a mission, a vision, and a profit model.

Today we will discuss how the natural meets the ideological - specifically how this concept of ubiquitous business ownership can be applied or is applied.

Perhaps it could increase your productivity and satisfaction in your endeavours?

Maybe it could make you better at your job?

The answers to these questions are yours to judge as you read on, but one thing I know: this piece will turn your neck looking the other way regarding entrepreneurship.

Ideology 1 - Personal Branding

Today, our quick search definition will be from Wikipedia contributors, who describe a personal brand as follows:

" The conscious and intentional effort to create and influence public perception of an individual by positioning them as an authority in their industry, elevating their credibility, and differentiating themselves from the competition, to ultimately advance their career, widen their circle of influence, and have a larger impact."

PersonalBrand.com. Retrieved 2020-05-13."Defininition - What is a Personal Brand?".

There are 3 key concepts rightfully delineated in this definition; intentional effort, influence public perception and advance impact.

It is a no-brainer when these terms are associated with typical companies who actively influence public perception through well-thought-through budgets with a profit and impact motive.

The existence of a personal brand implies and necessitates the view of a person as a company. We may want to move away from the 'person' and 'company' so we do not determine a superior term. Either way, the intentions and actions of this entity remain the same, be it a person or a company.

If you subscribe to the personal brand theory, you will only begin to succeed at it when you view yourself as a company.

And yes, your best bet at career advancement is a personal brand.

The typical company usually does two things better with branding than individuals; quite ironically, these two things are probably the pivotal pointers to success in branding.

Documenting and carefully outlining the critical statements of a brand entity is the first thing your person-company can learn from the typical company. The second is making an action plan for the written word.

Do you have a personal mission and vision statement?

Is your position statement well outlined and scheduled for the next 5 years?

Have you determined your category entry points and set objectives and key results for your person-company?

Write the vision down. Make it plain on your notes app so you can run with it whenever you need to remember why you started.

Think about it this way. When you can write down 5 situations in which a company may need your services as a potential employee, you can come up with a compelling cover letter or cv talking about how you are the best fit to solve all the problems they may have in the specific situation. This helps to position yourself for your next job at your dream company.

The clearer you are on what you are trying to achieve with your brand and who your potential clients are, the better you will be at placing yourself in the way of the need that makes money for you – and that which you are passionate about.

In her book 'Think Like an Entrepreneur, Act Like a CEO', Beverly Jones' says,

"'Do something every day to work toward your goal. Once you have some picture of where you want to go, get things moving by taking small steps toward that vision."

Ideology 2 - Your primary employer is your person-company's client

We have kept our definitions as simple as can be thus far. This is what google has to say about a client.

"a person or organization using the services of a lawyer or other professional person or company."

This definition can be improved. Here you go:

"a person or company using the services of another person or company."

In every sense of both words, your parents or guardians are your first and major shareholders and investors.

Per this definition, you are either on the left side of the sentence or the right side of it. The latter is the exact position we find ourselves in.

Are you using your employer's services, or are they using your services?

I can hear a tiny voice in your heart saying, 'my salary is the service my saviour of an employer offers me.'

Ha!

Your employer is the company using the services of another person, yourself. A typical company is a mill of client contracts, with an entire department of contracted people, the HR, whose job is to not make you feel like you are on a client contract.

Fair enough, the safety we get from salaried jobs is vital. It is the place of every employer to make employees feel at home and well-taken care of.

The point is this - it is your responsibility to get and keep the 'company client' mindset

Benefit? You are better placed for productivity and satisfaction, which is a win-win situation for you and your dear employer at your own pace.

This mindset liberates you from feeling indebted to your employer and working for them as if you owe it to them. This is bad for both parties because forced productivity is always, always limited. Google found out in a study about teams that people contribute more when they feel they are doing it at their own pace and at their own will.

Think about the time your mom asked you to go wash the dishes when you had already planned to wash them. If you immediately lost all the motivation to wash those dishes, you absolutely had the right to! Counterintuitive right?

When you have the company client mindset, the motivation to succeed is intrinsic, for the benefit of your own person-company. Your current job is a portfolio for the next, so you need to be ahead of your employer to ensure you get the metrics that will look good on your next resume.

This mindset gives you a professional approach to dealing with whatever endeavour you are involved in and unlocks the inner motivation to do great – because you want to.

I am tempted to add a third part to this series just to share alternate opinions on this subject matter. To create a dump of empirical research that supports the 'everyone is an entrepreneur theory'.
